This property is uniquely positioned to increase both our accessibility and visibility. Situated at the end of Ninth Street, we are surrounded by housing for both Mizzou and Columbia College students, placing us near a population of women who are often navigating unexpected pregnancies during pivotal years. We are also within blocks of low-income housing and bus transportation, making us accessible to those facing transportation barriers. In addition, this location offers significantly greater visibility than our Providence location, allowing the community to become more aware of our care available to them.

Additional space allows us to serve more women with greater care and privacy. We will immediately add a fourth counseling room designed to accommodate clients with children. Our current ultrasound and STI testing rooms will remain, with the flexibility to convert into a second ultrasound room as demand grows.  A key benefit of this building is the ability to thoughtfully separate our medical and resource services. With a shared lobby, there are times that a woman considering abortion overlaps with a mother and her young children. These two separate entrances will allow us to show sensitivity and create space for both.

When we opened in 1992, our proximity to the local abortion provider helped women who were already in the area and looking for answers. However, over time, the way women search for help has changed significantly.  Today, most women begin their search online - seeking information, reading reviews, and mapping directly to a location. Because of this, our ability to connect with her is driven far more by our digital presence and the quality of care we provide than by physical proximity.  We remain committed to meeting her in that place, ensuring she can easily find us, trust us, and access care when she needs it most.

Thanks to several years of generosity that exceeded our operating needs, we are financially positioned to cover both the down payment and initial renovations upfront. We have intentionally stewarded these reserves to support both program growth and expanded operations. Looking ahead, we will launch a Capital Campaign to retire the remaining building loan, ensuring this new space is a sustainable, long-term investment in serving women and families in our community.

The building was left in excellent condition by the previous owner and already features a layout that aligns well with our mission and client flow. As a result, renovations will be relatively straightforward—primarily adding a few walls to create private spaces, updating flooring, and making design updates. One of the key reasons we pursued this property was how the layout naturally supports the way we serve our clients.
